Presence Over Productivity Shifting from executing a list to deeply experiencing a moment is what makes a life feel grounded and full.
What type of simple joy are you most likely to notice?

Sensory (warm laundry, hot tea, cozy blankets) ✨
Success (catching every green light, empty inbox) 🚦

Topic Overview
In a world that often feels like a non-stop race to the next big milestone, it is easy to find ourselves passing through our lives rather than living them. We often wait for the big wins before we permit ourselves to feel successful or happy. That promotion, a long-saved for vacation, or a major purchase. However, the moments that make up a truly satisfying life are often found in simple joys: those small, often cost-free moments that anchor us to the present.
Why Simple Joys Matter
This negative-over-positive mentality is not all our fault! As psychologist Dr. Rick Hanson explains, our brains have evolved to be like "velcro" for negative experiences and "teflon" for positive ones. This means we naturally notice what goes wrong while letting what goes right slip away.
To counter this, we must build our joy muscles and practice savoring moments. According to Dr. Fred Bryant, savoring is the intentional act of giving our attention to the pleasures we experience. Whether it’s the perfect temperature of a morning coffee, a cat choosing to sit in your lap, or hitting a string of green lights when you’re in a hurry, if we choose to notice and appreciate them, these types of moments can be anchors that keep us from being swept away by the current of a busy schedule.
By discussing simple joys with others, we aren't just sharing nice sentiments; we are rewiring our brains and helping each other move back into the life that is happening right now.
